The Full Story
James Sohn began his music career through piano lessons since 1st grade. Classically trained by the extraordinary Emily Hirsch of Centenary College, James has competed in a variety of music festivals and recitals sponsored by the American Federation of Musicians, even receiving an Excellence Award from the organization. He has also performed in seasonal piano concerts in malls and concert halls. He has also received many excellence awards in music theory rallies for his vast knowledge in music theory, which he also studied under the guidance of Emily Hirsch.

Despite not having formal vocal training, James began to learn to sing at the beginning of high school. He was a member of the award-winning Caddo Magnet High School Beau Chant Choir taught by Jennifer Jackson throughout all four years of high school, where he sang many advanced choral pieces. With the choir, he has also won many first-place awards in local and statewide choral competitions. He was also a member of the Louisiana Music Educators Association’s (LMEA) All-State Mixed Choir for three years. James became a member of the school’s Talented Arts Program (TAP), a program specialized for gifted and talented students in the areas of visual art, music, and drama. He was a member of the school’s TAP Vocal Ensemble taught by Trey Jackson, where he began to solidify his individual skills as a vocalist. He has performed a cappella medleys and original songs with the ensemble in seasonal concerts and competitions. In addition to group performances, James has also performed solo at Caddo Magnet High School in picnics, pep rallies, and other events.

James is from Shreveport, LA, and is currently based in Boston, MA. He is a 2023 graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. He has majored in Music Production and Engineering, where he aspires to become a well-experienced music producer and engineer in the music industry. He was a member and treasurer of the award-winning Berklee a cappella group On The Vox and was also the Social Media Manager of Berklee’s Asian Americans in Music and Entertainment (AAIME) club. In 2022, James collaborated with students of Emerson College's Media Arts Production to mix the award-winning short film, "Midnight Lobbies." In the summer of the same year, he was an intern at Soundtrack Boston. He was also selected to be a Track Producer for Singers Showcase: Synchronicity—The Music of Sting and The Police (2022) as part of Berklee's Signature Series of concerts. After graduating from Berklee, James is still working towards accomplishing his goals of becoming a well-experienced producer and engineer.
